Items that can be ordered together with a Havaxer board. They are inspected, tested and fitted before the board ships, and they are not sold separately.

PIC18F16Q40

Models 01

The microcontroller the 01 is designed around - a 20-pin DIP part that drops into the board's socket, supplied pre-programmed with the example application so the board does something the moment it is powered.

It is the largest-memory device in the 20-pin PIC18-Q40 family. The three members differ only in memory: the peripheral set, the 18 I/O pins and the 64 MHz core are the same across all of them.

You do not have to buy it here. Any 20-pin DIP PIC whose peripheral pin mapping matches will work, and a socket is a socket - see PIC MCU.

OLED

Models 01 · 02

A small monochrome display for the I2C display port, so the board can show what it is doing and be operated with the two buttons - no laptop, no network, nothing else attached. The board has mounting holes positioned for it, so the panel sits fixed rather than dangling on its wires.

Two sizes are offered, 0.96" and 2.42". They are the same interface electrically and interchangeable in firmware; what differs is physical size and current draw. The current difference is large - at full contrast the 2.42" panel costs roughly seven times the 0.96", about 145 mA more. On the 01, whose whole worst case is under 400 mA, that is the single biggest power decision you make. Measured figures are on the 01 and 02 version pages.

Both sizes come with their own I2C pull-up resistors fitted, which is why the board leaves its own pull-up positions empty - see I2C.

Limits

  • An OLED may not be RoHS compliant. Its pins are soldered by hand, and that solder is not necessarily lead-free.
  • 0.96" is legible up close; 2.42" is legible across a plant room. Choose by where the board will be mounted.

Temperature sensor

Models 01 · 02

A 10 kΩ NTC thermistor probe on a 5 m lead, ready to land in a temperature input terminal. Two wires, no polarity to observe, nothing to set up in hardware - the board already provides the excitation and the filtering.

It is the sensor the inputs were designed around, so the conversion curve the example application ships with is the curve for this part. Any other 10 kΩ NTC works too; you supply its curve in firmware.

USB A-C cable

Models 01 · 02

A 2 m USB-A to USB-C cable for powering the board from anything with a USB port - and on the 02, for programming and the debug console as well.

This one carries data, so it programs an 02 as well as powering it. That is worth checking on any cable you already own: charge-only cables are common, look identical, and will power the board perfectly while making it appear to have no USB at all. On the 01 it makes no difference - the connector there is power only.
